The H&SE Oct 1999 Approved Code of Practice (ACOP)
Rider Operated Lift Trucks revises the laws concerned with the use of mechanical handling equipment and takes its lead from the PUWER Regulations 1998. It makes the legal position very clear, untrained personnel cannot operate any type of lift truck.
 

WHO HAS TO BE TRAINED?
To comply with legislation, employers must ensure that all operators are adequately trained, even if only for secondary or occasional use with supervisors having adequate awareness training.
